A story that started in 1796
The origin of the cellar is rooted in the ancient story of the della Gherardesca family. Since the mid-nineties Federico Zileri Dal Verme has taken over the family tradition, with the goal to produce wines that represent the highest expression of Bolgheri's terroir, in terms of complexity, elegance and longevity.
From his passion, and with the great contribution of the company's team, two labels are born: Castello di Bolgheri DOC BOLGHERI SUPERIORE and Varvàra DOC BOLGHERI ROSSO, named after the owner's great-grandmother.
A family history
The signboard, affixed to the facade, shows the date of construction of the cellar
The cellar, built in 1796, is located in the middle of the town of Bolgheri and operates on two floors.
On the first floor, located at the level of the main road, you will find the wine shop, where you can taste and buy the estate's products and learn about its ancient history.
On the same floor, is the area of vinification and warehousing, where the final aging of our wine takes place in cement tanks after spending a period in wood barriques. The lower underground floor is divided into a vinification area with temperature-controlled steel tanks, and an area where our wine ages in wood vessels with barriques, tonneaux and oak tanks.
